Die Kantine

In order to exchange experiences of transatlantic projects, a friendly place and atmosphere is needed which supports discussion. GTA is creating a "theater kantine" as a meeting point and venue for lectures, panel discussions and talkbacks. THE KANTINE will become the place to exchange opinions about the borderless theater which the Stadttheater project imagines, to pose questions and to discuss histories, misunderstandings and future opportunities with all involved.

To begin cultural exchange with an examination of cultural perspectives, the Symposium "The Theater We Want" (Beginning and End of May 2006) will bring theater experts – artists, dramaturgs, scholars and critics – from German and the United States together to discuss differences and similarities, traditions and visions between the theaters of their respective cultures. This is about the largest questions: What type of theater do we have? What meaning does theater have societally and for us personally? What type of theater do we want and need?

In order to examine these questions, three panel discussions, each focusing on a different theme, have been planned. Each will consider both the German and American perspective:
